Smart City

As part of the LEMGO DIGITAL initiative, Fraunhofer IOSB-INA will develop the city center of the Old Hanseatic City into an open test and participation laboratory (Living Lab). The aim is to develop digital innovations for everyday life based on the Internet of Things (IoT). medium-sized cities in NRW, where half of all people in the most populous federal state live. Nationwide, every third citizen lives in a medium-sized city. The innovation platform is used by research institutions, municipalities and industry together with citizens.

The users (e.g. citizens) of technical products and solutions are to be directly involved in the IoT real-world laboratory as everyday experts in finding ideas and actively shaping innovations. The state of NRW is funding the necessary network management and participation infrastructure for the open test and participation laboratory.

With Lemgo Digital, solutions for everyday problems in the city are developed with the competencies of Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, such as sensor technology, intelligent networking, data analysis and human-technology interaction. The Fraunhofer scientists from Lemgo are supported by the Institute for Industrial Information Technology (inIT) of the Hochschule OWL and other partners as well as by the state of NRW.
