Sensor technology seminar: Understanding machines better

Which information of an industrial plant can be collected?
What possibilities arise to improve the control with these?
How do I make sensor readings available centrally for analyses and retrofitting?
Which active and measuring principles have to be considered? What costs arise?

„What you can't measure, you can't control." - (Peter Drucker, US economist)

In order to evaluate the potential of sensor technology in an industrial context, it is first necessary to understand the functions as well as the advantages and disadvantages of different sensor technologies - against the background of the requirements set.

In one day, you will receive up-to-date, comprehensive basic information on the topic of industrial sensor technology in a compact, practical format.

The seminar

The one-day sensor technology seminar offers a practical introduction to the application possibilities of sensor technology for smart factories in the context of Industrie 4.0. You will learn about the basic types and application possibilities of sensor technology - from theory to practical example and from the individual industrial sensor to the secure cloud. The focus is on application-related practice. In cooperation with the Institute for Industrial Information Technology of the OWL University of Applied Sciences, Fraunhofer IOSB-INA draws on extensive experience from its real laboratories, the "SmartFactoryOWL" (Smart Automation) and "Lemgo Digital" (Smart City). You too can benefit from this state-of-the-art laboratory environment.

Program:

Sensor technology - an introduction

  • Sensor types
  • Measuring principles
  • Signal interpretation and processing

Practical exercise on the mobile sensor system "INAsense" (Part 1)

  • Connection of industrial sensors to a programmable logic controller (PLC)
  • Interpretation and evaluation of the acquired sensor values

Industrial application scenarios

  • Industrial image evaluation
  • Localization of objects within industrial environments
  • Retrofitting of existing industrial plants

Practical exercises on the mobile sensor system "INAsense" (Part 2)

  • Configuration of the interfaces (Analog/IO/Modbus/OPC UA)
  • Setup and test of server-based visualization and recording
Learning objectives: The basics of sensor technology (types, measurement principles, signal interpretation and processing) as well as application examples for simple and more complex sensor systems are taught and worked through using a concrete example. In the practical exercise, different industrial sensors are connected to a PLC using our mobile INAsense sensor system, interpreted and forwarded to a central cloud application via OPC UA.
Target group:

Beginners in the application of industrial sensor technology.

The seminar is aimed at business professionals with a technical background as an introduction to the use of simple and complex sensor systems in the context of the Smart Factory and various Industrie 4.0 applications.

Programming knowledge is not a prerequisite for this seminar.
